House of Bread Bakery Cafe

A fantastic bakery as well as a hidden gem for lunch
As soon as you get off the freeway at Marsh street start looking for the House of Bread. Right on the corner of Marsh and Higuera it’s easy to drive right by and assume it’s just a bread shop…but you’re wrong

The Digs:
House of Bread Bakery Cafe
299 Marsh Street
San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

The Scoop:
When you drive by you will assume it’s a cute little San Luis Obispo bakery but it’s much more. Stop in for lunch and try a handful of sandwiches they make on the spot with their amazing bread.  I can almost guarantee you will be scratching your head saying “why didn’t I come here sooner?” With an amazing selection of breads, treats, and sandwiches, this will become a favorite stop off for you and I bet you start bringing out of town guest here to try out their wonderful creations.

What Rocks:
For lunch, the California Fusion Panini. From the bakery, try to the chocolate zucchini bread. Mmmm.

What Sucks:
While the presentation of their sandwiches is “okay” you expect a little more on the plate than just a sandwich, which is a little small. Even if they added a pickle or something to dress up the plate you would feel like you are getting a little more.  The outside eating area in the front can get a little windy as well but they have done their best to remedy this.

The Moolah:
Sandwiches are $6.95. Salads are $3.95-$7.95. Bakery items vary in price.
