The Rib Line San Luis Obispo

The Rib Line San Luis Obispo

Burgers, chicken and ribs – oh my!

I can remember The Rib Line when I was growing up in San Luis Obispo and it’s as good today as it was back then. Located off the beaten path on Los Osos Valley Road, The Rib Line serves up (and delivers) some of the best ribs you will have in San Luis Obispo.

The Digs:
The Rib Line
12308 Los Osos Valley Road
San Luis Obispo, CA 93405

The Scoop:
The Rib Line is known for its ribs but their menu has everything from salads to burgers to chicken and yes of course, beef and pork ribs. This is a place for a meat lover.  While it is more suited for delivery or takeout, The Rib Line is in the small strip mall off Los Osos Valley Road just before Sunset Honda off the 101. It’s very small and does offer a few tables to eat there but don’t expect anything fancy as it all about the food.

RibLine1 150x150 The Rib Line San Luis ObispoWhat Rocks:
This place is all about ribs. If you love ribs, you will love The Rib Line. I wanted to try something different so I went for the SLO Town burger. It was very good. The fries aren’t really fries they are more like potato wedges but you will be surprised how good they are.  For the family you can get one of their selections of Family Meals which include ribs, chicken, or tri-tip and it includes coleslaw, beans, baked potatoes, and cornbread. Yum.

What Sucks:
The location begs for something more. It’s in a small spot and there really isn’t much seating and Los Osos Valley Road gets so windy you really don’t want to sit outside either. I can’t help to think if this place was in a more central location it would do fabulous as a retail restaurant but if the focus is to stick with delivery its fine where it is.  While we had fun going there the next time I would get it to go or have it delivered.  One could say it’s a bit pricey too but for all that meat you can’t complain and its oh-so-good.  One thing that was very surprising when we were there is the time it took to get our food. When we arrived the staff was all standing up front talking as they were obviously slow but even after we ordered it took more than 20 minutes to get our food and we had to ask to get drink refills.

The Moolah:
Most of the sandwiches and burgers run between $6-10. Ribs are $10-23 depending on what you get. Family packs start around $37. They also have great lunch specials that include a side and a drink starting at $7.

Bridgeview Asian Grill

Bridgeview Asian Grill

A fun Mongolian BBQ style restaurant in SLO that’s only going to get better!

Bridgeview Asian Grill is located near the Amtrak station. It’s a welcome addition to our San Luis Obispo restaurants as you usually only see Mongolian-style BBQ traveling to larger cities.  I found out when I was there that they just took on a partner and are going to be introducing additional Vietnamese dishes to their menu.

The Digs:
Bridgeview Asian Grill
1819 Osos Street
San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

The Scoop:
So for those that haven’t experienced Mongolian style BBQ, you basically start with a bowl and add things buffet style to it. It is all raw and you hand it to the chef’s who spread it out onto a large round grill where they cook in front of you. You can add whatever you like and its all fresh. The final step before you give to the chef is to add your sauces so you can make it as savory, sweet, or in my case, as spicy as you desire.

What Rocks:
The buffet style set up is just plain fun. The ingredients range from noodles to various veggies to different meats to choose and they all look fresh and appetizing. Bring your out of town guest here for something different. Also a great first date place.

What Sucks:
I have been here a few times now and this was the first time it didn’t take 20 minutes to get my food. The one down side of this place as when it is busy, they get in a bind that there is only one giant grill to work from so the bowls of fresh ingredients stack up and you wait your turn. I’d like to see a better selection of Asian beverages as well. More Asian beers, sake, etc.

The Moolah:
Lunch – $7.99. Dinner – $10.99 (same set up, just $3 more in the evening)

Laguna BBQ & Brew

Laguna BBQ & Brew

Good bar style food and 20 beers on tap. What more could you ask for on a work night?

Laguna BBQ & Brew is a sports bar over in the Laguna Shopping Center in San Luis Obispo. It was recently remodeled and it’s a great place to hang out after work or on a weekend watching one of their many big screen TVs.

The Digs:
Laguna BBQ & Brew
11560 Los Osos Valley Rd, #110

San Luis Obispo CA, 93405

The Scoop:
If you seek the casual bar with good beer on tap, this is your new hang out. Laguna BBQ & Brew in San Luis Obispo has got the traditional bar food fare and great beer on tap. It’s a beer and wine only place so if you are in need of a stiff drink after work this isn’t the place for you.

What Rocks:
The food is great for a casual atmosphere. Nothing fancy, but all well done. The beer battered fries are fantastic and if that isn’t your fancy they have 3-4 other types of fries to choose from. Service is good and the beer selection is great.

What Sucks:
Only beer and wine and if you are a wine person, the selection is mediocre at best. Mostly likely because they are pushing the beer but given there is no hard alcohol they should have better wine selections available. It’s clear whoever orders the wine knows very little about it and is leaving it up to their distributor to pick for them. There are TVs everywhere, which is great, but the bar lacks some of the sports bar paraphernalia you expect to see in a sports bar.

The Moolah:
Typical meal is under $10 and the beer and wine is reasonable. Go with friends and order a pitcher.
